About the role

We are looking for a Technical Trainer to play a key role in developing the technical skills, knowledge and confidence of our workforce. Working closely with operational teams, you will deliver engaging training programs, assess competency, and support employees and contractors to achieve safe and effective performance in their roles. Working closely with leaders and employees you will ensure training programs meet operational requirements and support continuous improvement.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Superintendent Learning and Development, your key responsibilities include:

• Delivering technical, operational and induction training programs

• Developing and maintaining training materials, learning resources and competency-based assessment tools

• Conducting practical assessments and maintaining accurate training records

• Partner with area leaders and on-the-job training personnel to provide training, guidance and support to new and transferred employees to ensure they obtain the required knowledge within established timelines

• Monitoring training progress and providing coaching and feedback to support development.

• Coordinating training schedules, logistics and associated administration

• Collaborating across the business to ensure a consistent and effective approach to training delivery

• Champion equity, diversity and inclusivity in the workplace

• Identifying capability gaps and driving improvements to training programs and materials

• Evaluating training effectiveness and recommending opportunities to improve safety, quality and operational performance

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience delivering training, coaching or competency-based assessments within an operational or mining environment

• Demonstrated experience in mining operations or similar operational environment

• Strong facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt delivery approaches to different learning needs

• The ability to build effective working relationships and influence stakeholders across all levels of the business

• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, training schedules and compliance requirements

• Sound computer literacy and experience maintaining learning management systems, training records and documentation

• A proactive approach to identifying improvement opportunities and contributing to workforce capability initiatives

• A commitment to safety, inclusion and continuous improvement

Required qualifications/licences

• C Class Drivers Licence

• TAE40116 or TAE40122 Certificate IV Training and Assessment

Where you'll be working

Our Gove site in Australia’s Northern Territory has been supplying the global aluminium industry with world-class bauxite for more than 40 years. 

Gove bauxite is shipped internationally as well as domestically to supply Queensland Alumina Limited and Yarwun refineries in Gladstone, Queensland. These refineries produce alumina as feedstock for our Australian aluminium smelting operations and for sale on the international market. 

We expect our bauxite mining operations in the Gove Peninsula will cease later this decade and we are doing significant work to support closure of the operation.
