About the role
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to help Refinery Operations improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of critical electrical assets. In this role, you’ll provide hands-on engineering support for maintenance, operational priorities and capital improvement projects, working with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors and technical specialists. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex equipment and process challenges and wants to deepen their expertise across power systems, industrial controls and project delivery.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Superintendent, Electrical Maintenance & Engineering and working in a collaborative, safety-focused environment across Refinery Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Reliability, you will be:
- Provide technical support for medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution systems, substations, motor control centres, transformers, protective relays and related electrical infrastructure.
- Diagnose electrical and process-control issues, lead root cause investigations and develop corrective actions that reduce operational risk and recurring equipment failures.
- Develop and review electrical designs, drawings, specifications, calculations and construction packages for sustaining and capital improvement projects.
- Manage assigned projects from scope and budget development through engineering, procurement, construction support, commissioning and closeout.
- Improve equipment reliability through asset analysis, preventive maintenance optimisation, condition monitoring and long-term replacement strategies.
- Perform or coordinate load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination and arc-flash studies, applying relevant electrical codes, standards and company requirements.
- Support programmable logic controller (PLC), DeltaV, instrumentation and process-control programming, troubleshooting and design activities.
- Partner with operations, maintenance, Health and Safety, contractors and consultants to complete risk assessments, plan outages and implement safe, practical engineering solutions.
About you

- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated electrical engineering experience in refinery, mining, metals, manufacturing, chemical processing or another safety-critical heavy industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of industrial power distribution, electrical protection, motor control and industrial control systems.
- Experience interpreting and developing electrical drawings, schematics, technical specifications and engineering calculations.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues and manage multiple engineering or project priorities in an operating environment.
Helpful for Success
- Experience with medium-voltage systems, variable frequency drives and direct-current circuits.
- Experience with protective relays, power-system studies, coordination and arc-flash analysis.
- Familiarity with PLCs, DeltaV, instrumentation and process-control systems.
