About the role
We are looking for a People Analyst to support the delivery of HR Operations Services within Global Services. As an entry point into HR for employees and leaders, the role provides responsive, customer-focused support, triages enquiries with care and confidence, and ensures matters are resolved or directed to the appropriate HR support. You will also contribute to employee lifecycle administration, workforce transactions and a positive employee experience in a high-volume operational environment.
Reporting to the Superintendent People, you will work with employees, managers, payroll teams and other internal stakeholders to deliver reliable, compliant and customer-focused services.
This is an opportunity to build practical capability across HR operations, employee enquiry triage, Workday, employee data analysis and continuous improvement while contributing to process standardisation and automation.
What you’ll be doing
- Deliver employee lifecycle activities, including onboarding, job changes and workforce transactions.
- Process HR transactions accurately in line with service-level agreements, operational procedures, controls and compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate employee records, documentation and data in Workday and other HR service platforms.
- Act as an entry point into HR for employees and managers, providing responsive, professional and customer-focused support through service portals and operational support channels.
- Triage employee and manager enquiries, resolving standard matters where appropriate and escalating complex, specialist or employee relations matters to the Senior HR Adviser or relevant specialist team.
- Use data and service information to support reporting, identify trends and provide service delivery insights, while maintaining accurate records and data integrity.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, standardisation and automation initiatives that strengthen service efficiency and quality.
- Collaborate with payroll teams and internal stakeholders to support integrated service delivery.
About you
We’re looking for someone whose experience aligns with the key requirements below. You do not need to meet every “Helpful for Success” item to apply. If you bring relevant experience and are excited by the opportunity, we encourage you to submit an application.
Required for Success
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- A degree in Human Resources or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of generalist HR experience.
- Practical exposure to Employment Equity processes and an understanding of Skills Development requirements and practices.

- Experience in HR operations, shared services, customer service or a high-volume transactional environment.
- Knowledge of employee lifecycle processes and workforce administration.
- Experience using HR systems, workflow tools or service management platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality and compliance.
- Ability to communicate clearly and provide effective support to employees, managers and internal stakeholders.

- Fluency in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written, is essential. The successful candidate must be able to independently and accurately translate HR documents and employee communications from English into Portuguese, without relying on external translation support. Rio Tinto is a global company, and the duties of this position may require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams, or partners based outside South Africa.
