Sobre el rol

Buscamos un/a Principal Advisor de Asuntos Externos para Chile que apoye a Copper Growth & Development en la gestión de relaciones gubernamentales, relacionamiento con grupos de interés estratégicos, monitoreo del entorno externo y análisis de políticas públicas que puedan impactar nuestras actividades y prioridades de negocio.

En este rol contribuirás a fortalecer la reputación de Rio Tinto en Chile, desarrollar relaciones constructivas con actores gubernamentales, industriales e institucionales, y proporcionar análisis oportunos sobre tendencias políticas, regulatorias y socioeconómicas relevantes para la toma de decisiones.

También actuarás como un punto de conexión entre equipos locales, regionales y globales, facilitando una gestión coordinada de asuntos externos y apoyando el logro de objetivos estratégicos del negocio.

Reportando al Country Head Chile y trabajando en un entorno colaborativo y matricial dentro de Copper Growth & Development, serás responsable de:

  • Apoyar el desarrollo e implementación de la estrategia de relaciones gubernamentales de Chile, alineada con las prioridades del negocio.
  • Desarrollar y mantener relaciones constructivas con stakeholders gubernamentales nacionales, regionales y locales.
  • Coordinar actividades de relacionamiento con embajadas, asociaciones de la industria, cámaras de comercio e instituciones externas relevantes.
  • Monitorear el entorno político, regulatorio, de políticas públicas y socioeconómico en Chile, entregando análisis y reportes que apoyen la toma de decisiones y la gestión de riesgos.
  • Identificar riesgos y oportunidades emergentes que puedan impactar las actividades e intereses de Rio Tinto en el país.
  • Preparar materiales de briefing, mensajes clave, presentaciones y análisis para apoyar interacciones ejecutivas, visitas de líderes senior y procesos de relacionamiento externo.
  • Apoyar iniciativas de asuntos externos relacionadas con permisos, aprobaciones, procesos regulatorios y prioridades estratégicas del negocio.
  • Mantener información e inteligencia de stakeholders que apoye la planificación, gestión de riesgos y toma de decisiones.
  • Apoyar actividades de comunicación corporativa y gestión reputacional alineadas con estrategias y mensajes aprobados.

  • Dominio avanzado de español e inglés, junto con buen criterio para manejar información sensible de manera responsable.
  • Experiencia apoyando iniciativas de engagement externo en entornos complejos o regulados.
  • Conocimiento o exposición a minería, recursos naturales, infraestructura, energía o industrias relacionadas.
  • Experiencia trabajando en modelos matriciales y colaborando con equipos locales, regionales y globales.

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor External Affairs to support Copper Growth & Development in Chile through government relations, strategic stakeholder engagement, external environment monitoring, and public policy analysis that may impact business priorities and activities.

In this role, you will contribute to strengthening Rio Tinto’s reputation in Chile, building constructive relationships with government, industry and institutional stakeholders, and providing timely insights on political, regulatory and socio-economic developments relevant to business decision-making.

You will also act as a key connection point between local, regional and global teams, helping coordinate external affairs activities and supporting the delivery of strategic business objectives.

Reporting to the Country Head Chile and working in a collaborative and matrix environment within Copper Growth & Development, you will:

  • Support the development and implementation of Chile’s government relations strategy, aligned with business priorities.
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with national, regional and local government stakeholders.
  • Coordinate engagement activities with embassies, industry associations, chambers of commerce and other relevant external institutions.
  • Monitor Chile’s political, regulatory, public policy and socio-economic environment, providing analysis and reporting to support decision-making and risk management.
  • Identify emerging risks and opportunities that may affect Rio Tinto’s interests and activities in Chile.
  • Prepare briefing materials, key messages, presentations and analysis to support executive engagement, senior leadership visits and external stakeholder interactions.
  • Support external affairs initiatives related to permitting, approvals, regulatory processes and strategic business priorities.
  • Maintain stakeholder intelligence and insights to support planning, risk management and business decisions.
  • Support corporate communications and reputation management activities aligned with approved strategies and messaging.
  • Ensure external engagement activities are conducted in accordance with Rio Tinto’s standards, values and corporate principles.

About you

You are a strategic, collaborative and results-oriented professional who thrives in complex environments and builds trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A strong commitment to your safety and the safety of others.
  • Experience in government relations, public affairs, corporate affairs, stakeholder engagement or related disciplines.
  • Experience working with government institutions, industry associations or public policy stakeholders in Chile.
  • The ability to analyse and communicate complex public policy, regulatory and external environment issues.
  • Strong capability to prepare executive-quality briefings, reports, analysis and stakeholder materials.
  • Advanced Spanish and English language skills, together with sound judgement in handling sensitive information.
  • Experience supporting external engagement initiatives in complex or regulated environments.
  • Exposure to mining, natural resources, infrastructure, energy or related industries.
  • Experience working effectively in matrixed environments across local, regional and global teams.
