About The Role
We are looking for a Planner Major Works to join the Major Works team responsible for planning major shutdown and maintenance activities across Rio Tinto’s specialised fixed plant assets. Reporting to the Superintendent Major Works, you will lead the planning and readiness of complex maintenance campaigns on Primary Crushers (Gyratory and Jaw Crushers), Apron Feeders, or Balance Machines, ensuring scope is defined, risks are managed, resources are secured and work is executable.
Working on a FIFO 5:2:4:3 roster, you will play a key role in improving asset reliability and shutdown performance while partnering with operational, maintenance, engineering and contractor stakeholders across the Pilbara.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead planning activities for major shutdowns and maintenance campaigns on specialised fixed plant assets including Primary Crushers, Apron Feeders and Balance Machines.
- Develop executable maintenance plans, ensuring labour, materials, tooling, contractor resources and support equipment are identified, planned and available for execution.
- Develop and maintain integrated shutdown schedules, managing critical path, risks, interdependencies and resource requirements throughout the shutdown lifecycle.
- Coordinate labour, accommodation, logistics, materials and contractor mobilisation to ensure work scopes are ready for safe and efficient execution.
- Support scope development, readiness reviews, commissioning planning and shutdown governance activities in alignment with RTIO shutdown management processes.
- Provide technical planning support to maintenance, engineering and operational stakeholders to optimise shutdown outcomes and improve asset reliability.
- Lead contractor engagement activities, including scope development, resource planning, performance monitoring and contract support.
- Collect, analyse and report work management and shutdown performance data, identifying improvement opportunities and corrective actions.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with safety, environmental, statutory and business requirements.
- Coach and support supervisors, engineers and maintenance teams in planning standards, shutdown readiness and work management processes.
- Monitor budgets, forecasts and maintenance costs to support the delivery of safe, efficient and cost-effective major works programs.

Required for Success
- A strong commitment to the safety of yourself and others.
- Demonstrated experience planning and coordinating major maintenance, shutdown or asset replacement activities within mining, fixed plant or other heavy industrial environments.
- Experience developing maintenance plans, work packs, shutdown schedules and readiness activities for complex maintenance scopes.
- Strong understanding of work management, shutdown planning, resource forecasting and scheduling principles.
- Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders across operations, maintenance, engineering, supply and contractor organisations.
- Experience coordinating labour, materials, tooling, equipment and specialist contractor resources to support safe and efficient execution.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
- A current Australian Manual C Class Driver’s Licence.
Helpful for Success
- Experience planning major shutdowns, outages or asset replacement campaigns involving Primary Crushers, Apron Feeders, Balance Machines or other large scale materials handling assets.
- Relevant trade qualification or practical experience in fixed plant maintenance, major shutdown execution or asset reliability.
- Experience managing contractors, shutdown logistics, specialist resources and maintenance budgets.
- Knowledge of asset management, work management and maintenance planning processes within large-scale operational environments.
- Experience using SAP and maintenance scheduling tools such as Prometheus or Microsoft Project.
- Experience supporting schedule optimisation, shutdown readiness and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Previous exposure to critical lifts, complex commissioning activities and high-risk maintenance scopes.
- Understanding of contractor management, procurement processes, long lead material planning and shutdown governance.

Where you'll be working
This role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative and high-performing team responsible for delivering major maintenance and shutdown activities across Rio Tinto’s Pilbara operations. Working on a 5:2:4:3 FIFO roster, you will travel across multiple Pilbara sites, balancing shutdown planning, stakeholder engagement and on-site execution support while contributing to the reliability and performance of some of the largest mining assets in the world.
