About the role

The MPP Operation Advisor is a subject matter expert responsible for developing and implementing safe and efficient operating standards across MPP, from crushing circuit to train loadout activities. This includes developing working procedures aligned with SPS pilar and best practices, training programs and driving asset improvement behavior without compromising safety, quality standards and any human well-being.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Safe operating procedures to ensure proper crushing, stacking, reclaiming, blending, TLO operation, dozing and stockpile inventory management while meeting production, availability, and product specification targets. 

• Ensure that key performance indicators are in place, implement SPS and ownership culture to monitor, analyse, and report on the operational performance of the business.

• Drive continuous improvement through 5S, clean to inspect, data analysis, condition monitoring, and effective interface management between Operations, Maintenance, and technical service teams

• Coordinate with OEM to Develop Training manuals and Verification Assessment checklist incorporating troubleshooting guides and optimization support.

• Establish and manage working relationship with central training department to maintain a unique competency standard aligned to Simandou training frameworks and OEM specifications.

• Coach and mentor both Supervisors and Operators to ensure over stacking, boom collision, chute blockage and excessive dust generation doesn’t occur

• Develop understandable stockpile inventory management diagram and blending strategies aligned with customer specifications.

• Ensure all activities comply with RTIO safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.

• Conduct gap analysis identifying and implementing additional procedures towards safe operational excellence

• Lead HIRA review and field management walkdown to improve the way of working

• Foster and implement culture of Housekeeping and 5S standard across MPP operation

• Use inventory management systems (e.g. SCADA, ROMpad, Pitram, or similar) to monitor ore movements and maintain accurate records.

• Report daily operational metrics, including stock levels, train loadout volumes, and equipment availability.

• Analyse KPI Gross rate, identify source of down time and liaise with maintenance teams to drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Initiate and lead wet season readiness program for plant optimal utilization

Qualifications and Experience:

• Recognized trade qualification in Operation, Engineering, Rotating Equipment Maintenance, or equivalent.

• 10+ years’ experience in mining, port operations or equivalent with exposure to crushing circuit, stockyard and train loadout functions.

• Trainer/Assessor or proven experience with operating bulk handling machinery (Tandem Tippler, Stacker/Reclaimer, Barge Loader, Shiploader, TLO) and Mobile equipment including but not limited to all type of Loaders, Dozer, Grader, Dump Truck, Excavator, Terrex.

• Proven experience in Operation, Maintenance or Reliability with primary & secondary crushing equipment, such as Sizers, Apron feeders, chutes, and associated conveyors 

• Strong safety mindset and knowledge of hazard identification and risk controls.

• Familiarity with bulk handling systems, stockpile management software, and SAP or similar systems.

• Experience with blending strategies and understanding of ore grade control.

• Language: English required with desirable intermediate French

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
