About the role 

We are looking for a Specialist Communities and Social Performance (CSP) to provide technical advice and coordinate CSP activities across the Western Australia Communities remit. The role supports Rio Tinto to maintain its social licence to operate through effective planning, monitoring and reporting, stakeholder engagement, social and human rights risk and impact management, studies,. 

Reporting to the Principal CSP, you will help align the Western Australia Communities and Social Performance work programme and deliverables with internal and external standards and reporting requirements. This is an opportunity to apply specialist expertise across complex issues, develop practical solutions with diverse stakeholders and contribute to measurable social impact and enduring community trust. 

What you’ll be doing 

Reporting to the Principal CSP and working within the Western Australia Communities and Social Performance team, you will be: 

• Lead strategic CSP planning, monitoring, reporting, engagement activities across the Western Australia Communities remit. 

• Coordinate CSP assurance, internal and external reporting, standards compliance and governance requirements, including timely and accurate data and evidence. 

• Develop and maintain stakeholder engagement plans, social risk registers, CSP action plans and management actions that support informed decisions. 

• Guide social risk and impact work across the asset lifecycle, including socio-economic baselines, social impact assessments, social impact management plans and human rights studies.

• Manage community issues, complaints, grievances and commitments in line with operational protocols and standards.

• Provide subject matter expertise and support continuous improvement across CSP standards, assurance, governance, processes, systems and tools.

Required for Success 

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team. 

• Demonstrated experience in Communities and Social Performance, community relations, social impact, human rights, ESG or a closely related discipline. 

• Capability in strategic CSP planning, project management, monitoring, reporting, assurance and governance within a complex operational or project environment. 

• Experience assessing and managing social risks and impacts using recognised methods such as socio-economic baselines, social impact assessments or social impact management plans. 

• Experience engaging and partnering with communities, Traditional Owners, Indigenous or land-connected peoples, government and other external stakeholders. 

• Ability to manage sensitive issues, complaints, grievances and commitments with sound judgement, clear records and appropriate escalation. 

Helpful for Success 

• Experience working in mining, resources, infrastructure or another large-scale, safety-critical environment. 

•, external reporting requirements or assurance programmes. 

• A relevant qualification in social sciences, community development, human rights, sustainability, public policy or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
